Outdoor Fitness Class Protocols

The following outlines the safety protocols for The Jamestown Area YMCA outdoor fitness classes. These protocols follow the New York State Sports and Recreation Guidelines set forth as part of the 'Reopening New York' for regions which have reached or surpassed Phase 3 of the State's reopening.

  • Class size is limited to 30 participants.
  • Class participation will be on a first come/first serve basis.
  • Patrons must maintain a minimum distance of 6 ft. from one another and class instructor(s).
    • Classes will involve physical activity with minimum movement from each person's own space.
  • If participants feel unwell they should stay home, contact their healthcare provider, and follow their advice if experiencing any mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, or fever.
  • Participants will be required to wear face covering to and from each class, and to their individual spot in the class.
  • Participants must bring their own equipment. No mats, water bottles, or other equipment will be provided.
  • Fitness Instructors will maintain a safe distance from all participants. No hands-on adjustments or physical contact will be implemented.

  • Participants attending the classes outside of the Lakewood YMCA may not enter the building.
  • Participants must be Active YMCA members to attend classes. Instructors will be signing in all participants. Thank you for honoring this, and supporting your local YMCAs. If you put your membership on hold, please reactivate your membership to attend.
  • If there is inclement weather we will post via our main Facebook pages, private group, and group exercise text messaging list. If viable, we will do a virtual class instead.
  • Fitness in the Parks classes sponsored by Independent Health are free classes open to everyone in the community.
