Personal Trainer:                                                               

Direct Supervisor: Kacey Shelters, Wellness Director                                  

Position Summary:

Provides excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  1. Design customized exercise programs for clients.
  2. Provide motivation, guidance, and education to clients.
  3. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  4. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  5. Makes sure clients have and fill out the personal training packet (Forms: General info/Exercise & health history, Informed consent, Notice of understanding & consent, Par-Q, Medical clearance (if applicable)), and forwards completed packets to the director (keep a copy for your records). **No personal training should take place until the proper paperwork is completed and returned.
  6. Keeps accurate session data (client and dates), and forwards to the director. The wellness director will track and redeem sessions in Daxko, and notify you when clients need to purchase more sessions.
  7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.

Qualifications:

  1. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED
  2. National personal trainer certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM)
  3. You must stay current with the above certifications. The YMCA pays for your certificate renewal cost only through the accredited organization, and covers up to $50 every year for continuing education needed after the continuing education is approved by the director. Unused training funds do not carry over.  

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to conduct personal training sessions and activities relating to fitness.
  2. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Compensation:

  1. Paid per session at appropriate hourly rate based on hour or half hour session, and solo or semi-private session.
  2. Higher hourly rate is paid for semi-private sessions.
  3. As a YMCA employee, you receive a free YMCA adult membership for yourself.
  4. For staff meetings, you are paid for your time at minimum wage.
  5. The YMCA pays for you to be certified in CPR/AED/First Aid, but does not compensate you for your time at the training.
  6. For any online continuing education trainings, including the new employee orientation & annual sexual harassment training, you are paid for your time at minimum wage.
  7. For any in-person certification/continuing education trainings, it is on a per basis discretion of the director & CEO to decide on compensation procedure and protocol.

Food Program Assistant: 

    • Assist with Meal Preparation and daily delivery

    • Must be able to:

      • Competence to occasionally lead kitchen staff in Lead Cook absence

      • Clean drivers license and confidence driving delivery vans.

      • Ability to lift 50 or more lbs.

    • 30 Hours/week; 12 months/year

    • Available Monday-Friday with hours scheduled early morning to mid-afternoon. 

    • Includes YMCA membership

 

YMCA Before/After School Group Leaders

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have experience working with school age children
  • Planning and leading group activities with assigned children
  • Supervision of children and classroom management
  • Assistance with homework help and special activities as well as all other duties assigned
  • 17-20 hours per week. Must be available from 2:30pm-6:00pm positions located at Ring, Lincoln, Love Elementary
  • Southwestern Elementary school 6:45am-9:00am & 2:30pm-6:00pm

Welcome Center Receptionist 

Reports to:   Office Manager

Reports to:   Executive Assistant/Human Resources

General Function:

Enjoy, be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people: members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders. High degree of accuracy with information provided, multi-task oriented; able to take initiative; effective organizational skills; effective communication skills. Experience with computers.  Ability to develop effective working relationships, and to effectively communicate and problem-solve. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

Job Segments:

Greet and serve members and guests

Answer telephone

Provide information on facility services and programs

Receipt monetary transactions and receipt membership and program sign-ups

Carry out other duties as assigned

Service skills:
  1. Follow the staff dress code for
    • No denim “blue” jeans or gym shoes allowed (except Fridays)
    • Professional office attire is required, modest clothing a must
  2. Greet members and guests.
  3. Know members’ names and use them in their presence. 
  4. Show interest in their concerns. 
  5. Listen to suggestions and respond promptly.
  6. Address of complaints/concerns immediately. 
  7. Provide information on membership services and and programs. 
  8. Receipt money transactions and program sign-ups.
  9. Serve as liaison between members and program directors. 
  10. Carry out other duties as assigned. 
  11. Answer telephones using professional greeting.
  12. Be alert to safety factors and potential hazards. 
  13. Always look for ways to improve performance. 
  14. Emphasize fun, make the Y a happy place with positive relationships.
  15. Eye contact, smile, engage.
Relationship skills:
  1. Make members feel comfortable and at ease. 
  2. Be open, friendly and approachable to members. 
  3. Initiate interaction with and between members. 
  4. Frequently ask if there is any way you can help. 
  5. Ask about family, job, hobbies, get to know personally. 
  6. Ask about their goals; progress, satisfaction. 
  7. Introduce members to other members and staff. 
  8. Invite members to participate in programs.
Member involvement skills:
  1. Be knowledgeable about program areas and share information with members. 
  2. Be knowledgeable about all of the YMCA locations and programs.
  3. Acquaint members with other YMCA programs and benefits. 
  4. Recommend participation in a variety of Y programs. 
  5. Be able to articulate the YMCA’s Mission, values, benefits. 
  6. Ask members to contribute to the annual campaign.

Shift times:

  1. Finding a substitute for your shift is your responsibility and you must complete a shift change form and notify supervisor of the change. If you cannot find a substitute, you are still responsible for your shift.
  2. If you are sick, you must call in at least 3 hours before your shift.
  3. If you agree to substitute for someone else, the shift becomes your responsibility.

Breaks: Each employee must take a 30 minute unpaid rest break or meal period if scheduled to work six hours consecutively.

Cell Phone Use: Cell Phones are not to be used or visible while you are on the clock and serving members.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds. If individual must lift and carry more than 30 pounds, they must ask for assistance from another staff member. This individual may be required to stand or walk for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility. Welcome Center staff must be friendly and professional at all times.

Performance Review: All persons employed are subject to a performance review after a 90 day probationary period.  The employee’s job performance is evaluated on an on-going basis.  Formal evaluations are completed at least annually.  All performance evaluations are retained in the employee’s personnel file located in the personnel office.  All evaluations are signed by both the employee and supervisor.  Employees may be released without prior notice at any time.
