Lakewood Gymnastics Program


The Lakewood YMCA boasts a 10,000 sq ft. facility including 2 full sets of uneven bars, 5 balance beams, a spring floor, in-ground trampoline, 40 foot Tumble-Trak, vault, and an over 600 sq ft loose foam training pit. The program is under the Coordinator Emily Storms and Team Head Coach Katie Clark, both U.S.A.G. safety certified, with over 15 years coaching experience.


Gymnastics build and reinforce children’s skills in the area of physical coordination, agility, strength, balance, gross motor skills and fine motor skills, yet the most important part in our program is FUN! Our classes teach basic skill progressions, which vary according to the age of the child.




Summer sessions are 4 weeks long – Second summer session being August 5-31.



This 45 minute class is designed for children ages 3 & 4 years old. The class will concentrate on the development of gross motor skills, flexibility, balance, and coordination using the gymnastic center. 


BEGINNER:      Ages 5 and up

This 1 hour class is designed to teach basic skills on the 4 Olympic events; vault, bars, beam, floor. All skills are taught in a progressive manner with each new skill being built upon the child’s previous successes.  As the gymnasts master the skills of each level they will progress through the different levels.



This class is for students that have learned beginner skills and now need to master them before moving to preteam. Students must get approval from the gymnastics coach prior to registration.



Working with different mats and trampoline to work on skills for floor exercise. This is geared for cheerleaders.



Boys’ gymnastics with a mix of parkour. A lot of running, climbing, learning how to flip and obstacle courses.



This is for gymnasts that have progressed through the intermediate class and that may be interested towards competition.


LEVEL 2-7 and Excel:  

*must be approved by Gymnastic Director prior to class registration

Gymnasts in this level will have mastered all the skills taught in the intermediate level and will thus be ready to enter competitions. Must be a YMCA member.  They will compete in a Pennsylvania League. Their season culminates with the YMCA National Championship Meet. 

Times vary Monday-Friday, 9am-7:30pm depending on level.
