The Jamestown Area YMCA held its annual Santa’s Secret/Family Workshop for the community, at the Y’s Downtown Branch, Dec.1.

More than 600 adults, parents and children attended this year’s event, and were treated to cookie making tables, ornament making stations, face painting, door prizes, a live musical quartet, costumed Christmas-themed character appearances, photo boot stations and of course Santa Clause himself and his company of elves. The cost to attend this event was $1 dollar. However, the YMCA doesn’t turn anyone away for inability to pay.

“The staff looks forward to this community-focused event each year,” said Gina Bloomquist the school-age and family director for the Jamestown Area YMCA. “We really don’t care if a person can’t pay-we’re here for the community- and its Christmas.

Each year it appears that this event grows bigger and bigger.

“Last year we hosted around 500 or so event participants,” added Bloomquist. “This year we broke the 600 mark.” “We really try to put on a high-quality, low-cost event for the entire community.”

At the end of the night many, many tired parents carried their sleepy children and family members out of the stoic and iconic building locate on 4th street.
