Dear YMCA Members,

We are excited to share an important update about the future of the Jamestown Area YMCA and an exciting next step in our partnership with Jamestown Community College.

Following careful planning and approval of the YMCA’s 2026 budget, the YMCA will launch The JAY Wellness Center in May 2026—a collaborative wellness initiative between Jamestown Community College (JCC) and the YMCA. This new chapter allows us to begin serving our members at the JCC campus this year while continuing to plan for a fully outfitted, modern wellness center in the future.

Beginning in May, YMCA membership-based wellness activities in downtown Jamestown will transition to the JCC campus, using the athletic facilities currently known as Total Fitness. This step moves us closer to our shared vision of expanded, accessible wellness opportunities for our entire community, while remaining fiscally responsible and mission-driven.

What this means for YMCA members

Beginning in May, YMCA members will have access to wellness amenities at The JAY Wellness Center, including:

Members will also continue to have access to wellness facilities and programming at the Lakewood YMCA, ensuring multiple options to support your health and well-being.

Why this step matters

Our downtown Jamestown facility has been a cornerstone of our community for generations. While the building has served us well, it is aging and requires increasing resources to maintain - particularly related to aquatics systems. Transitioning wellness membership activity to the JCC campus allows the YMCA to provide members with updated facilities while ensuring the organization remains financially sustainable and focused on long-term community impact.

Just as importantly, this move also allows the YMCA and JCC to begin working together on-site now, strengthening our partnership and building momentum toward a future, purpose-built wellness center designed to serve our community for decades to come.

What’s next for the downtown Jamestown YMCA

The downtown YMCA will remain open and active, continuing to serve the community through vital programs such as:

As part of this transition, downtown wellness amenities — including pools, locker rooms, and fitness spaces — will be retired. We will begin planning for new uses of available space in the building, including opportunities for future partners that complement YMCA programs and services.

Looking ahead together.

We recognize that change brings questions, and we are committed to clear, open communication every step of the way as we move toward May 2026. Our focus is on creating a smooth transition that strengthens the YMCA today while positioning us for a healthier, more sustainable future.

Should you have any questions regarding this transition, we invite you to reach out at (716) 664-2802.

Thank you for being part of the Jamestown Area YMCA. Your support makes our work possible, and we look forward to continuing to serve you — growing, adapting, and building a stronger community together, now and in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

George Panebianco
