To kick-start physical activity and learning now and throughout the summer – a critical out-of-school time for kids – on Friday, April 24, the Jamestown YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event for kids and families. YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, features games, contests, giveaways, activities and more to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.
The YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will focus on health and education to ensure fewer children are at an increased risk for childhood obesity and more children succeed in school. During summer, research shows that kids are more likely to gain weight and fall behind academically than during the school year. Healthy Kids Day is not just a single day of fun, active play and learning – it’s a kick off to helping parents get a jump on creating a healthier summer.
In celebration of YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y offers the following tips to help families develop healthy habits:
The Jamestown YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day event takes place at the YMCA’s 101 East 4th Street location from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Gina Bloomquist at (716) 664-2802 ext. 222 or visit www.jamestownymca.org.
Our program, located at 155 Prather Avenue in Jamestown, is designed to ensure that children engage in age appropriate activities that will broaden their experiences and stimulate their total development; physically, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually.
We serve children from infancy to school age: infants (6 weeks to 18 months), toddlers (18 months to 2 years), and preschool (3 years to 5 years).
Education through play is a large part of a child’s learning experience. Children will participate in a variety of activities that will introduce them to letters, numbers, colors, animals, sports, music, drama, outer space, culture, nutrition, and so much more!
Contact Ronda Migliore, Child Care Center Director, at 338-0111 or 488-4500 for more information regarding program rates, openings, and registration.

Quality childcare is our priority at the Y, and our after school programs are great for working parents. We strive to provide a positive atmosphere for children with activities that teach honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility. Our staff is made up of well-trained adults who enjoy working with children.
Our after school programs serve children ages 5 to 12 and are open on all regular days of school (by district) Monday thru Friday from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Each day, children will receive a nutritious snack and daily activity choices such as arts and crafts, sports, swimming, computers, literature, cooking, community service projects, games, homework help, and so much more!
The Jamestown Y will offer a 6-hour babysitting clinic for girls and boys ages 11 to 16 who are interested in learning about the responsibilities involved in caring for children. Participants will learn about safety, nutrition, first aid, games, and child development. The clinic is taught by instructors who have experience, knowledge, and education in the child care field. Students will receive a certificate of participation at the completion of the course. Register in person or online at least one week prior to the date of the class. Bring a brown bag lunch.
